Tyson Foods Sues U.S.D.A. Over Antibiotic Rules

Tyson Foods has sued the Agriculture Department over its rules for labeling chicken raised without antibiotics. In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday in Federal District Court in Washington, Tyson called itself a victim of a flawed regulatory process. The company had said it was informed by the U.S.D.A. last May that it could use a “raised without antibiotics” label, only to have the department reverse that decision. The controversy stems from the company’s use of antibiotics for prehatch vaccinations two to three days before its chicks are hatched.
